Tony Smith...Artist
After graduating from art school with a distinction,Tony Smith's parents, knowing the fickleness of the fine art world, decided that Tony should have a proper job. Tony Smith was therefore sent to work in one of Birmingham's biggest advertising agencies for five years, after which Tony completed a year's national service as an infantryman. Neither was a happy experience for Tony Smith and his painting remained his first and foremost love.
Tony Smith became passionate about motor racing in the mid forties at a time when there was no racing, so all Tony's research was developed from books about the pre-war period of motor sport. The only speed Tony Smith could personally indulge in was cycling and he became a keen racing cyclist. Tony Smith's first major journey took him from Birmingham to Silverstone for the 1948 Grand Prix, which Tony enjoyed immensely.
Tony Smith's subjects have ranged from portrait painting & drawing planes, Trains and military scenes, but it is the challenge of capturing speed in motor racing that occupies most of Tony's time.
Another of Tony Smith's passions is building sports cars, something he has done since long before he was even able to obtain his driving licence, making Tony Smith well qualified in his choice of subject.
