Terry Kirkwood...Artist
Terry Kirkwood was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1947 and graduated with a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Glasgow School of Art in the early seventies. Terry Kirkwood rapidly established herself as a professional artist with a series of successful exhibitions in the UK and more recently in the United States.
As a versatile painter who is at home with a variety of media, Terry Kirkwood has built up a formidable reputation as an artist with a social conscience, often choosing subjects based on world affairs which have a relevance to today's society. By way of a contrast Terry Kirkwood has a great affinity for the animal kingdom and finds the elegant lines and flowing movements of cats and horses particularly inspiring.
As a member of the prestigious Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, Terry Kirkwood finds herself in great demand and devotes much of her time to developing new work for both private and corporate collectors. Despite Terry Kirkwood's busy schedule she always finds time to paint what she loves, and this is amply demonstrated in Terry's alluring collection of Siamese cats and her elegant racehorse studies. Their contrasting moods demonstrate Terry Kirkwood's rare ability to communicate the essence of her subject - a trait which has charmed animal-lovers and art-lovers alike.
Terry Kirkwood says "I can't help but be inspired by the world around me; when it moves me I want to paint it. My cats have the most amazing characteristics and I love to capture their amusing antics."
