Shirley Trevena was born in Brixton London and worked as a planner with the Greater London Council until 1981.
Shirley Trevena has no formal art education but decided to concentrate on a painting carrer in 1981 when Shirley moved to Brighton. At this time Shirley Trevena was also involved with designing decorative panels and ceilings in stained glass for a London company dealing with the UK and the middle East in particular the palaces of the Sultan of Oman.
Shirley Trevena was made a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1994 and later elected to their council.
Shirley Trevena's work can be seen illustrated in a number of publications including Artist and Illustrator Magazine The Art of Drawing and Painting Magazine and Collins Artist's Manual published by Harper Collons.
