Michael Lawes became interested in visual effects such as reflections in shop windows, on railway carriages, road vehicles and rain soaked streets.
Michael also began to notice the effects of artificial light at night and how wet grey concrete and tarmac were transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour. Michael feels that reflections in water are also more vibrant and exciting at night.
These discoveries gave Michael Lawes's work a definite direction, where colour, reflections and the effects of artificial light became Michael's principle themes.
