Kirsty Wither...Artist
Since graduating from Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen in 1990, Kirsty Wither has become one of Scotland's most successful young artists.
Kirsty Wither's paintings evolve over time, re-filtered through memory. Kirsty is constantly inspired and moved by her surroundings - the hills, the sea or a wild flower growing in a verge. Months, sometimes years later, a place Kirsty has visited or a flower she has admired, will appear on the canvas, Kirsty never paints them directly. Being in the studio is a mysterious place where the paint takes over from any set ideas I start with and often unexpectedly leads me to a finished work.
Kirsty Wither's paintings are as much about the actual paint on the surface as about the subject matter. Botanical correctness or topographical accuracy is not Kirsty's main concern. Kirsty works with oil, building up layers of colour and texture to create an image that will have some resonance with the viewer. Kirsty Wither has the ability to interpret her vision of light and colour, culminating in arresting and unexpected compositions. Their vibrant, dynamic colour and bold imagery create beautiful, instinctive paintings, which are in constant demand and have resulted in regular sell-out exhibitions across the United Kingdom.
