Born in Middlesbrough Kenneth Leech studied Interior Design at Middlesbrough Art College between 1963-67. He subsequently spent some years in industry as a graphic designer before moving to Cumbria having decided to devote all his energies to his drawing and painting. Leech likes to spent as much time as possible walking in the countryside absorbing the scents and sounds and noting the way the character of the landscape changes with the season weather and quality of light.
Kenneth Leech spends much of his time working with oils using the traditional methods rather than acrylics. He works in a freer style in his figurative work and his landscapes in oils and finds that each medium helps the other. His work has been exhibited in both one-man and group shows notably at the Kendal Hall Art Gallery and the Lowick House Printmaking Touring Exhibition and is included in public and private collections. Kenneth Leech visited Canada in the summer of 1983 to look at the different landscape and in 1984 had an exhibition at the Gazebo Gallery Dunedin New Zealand and participated in a mixed show at Editions Gallery in Melbourne Australia.
