It is Karen Wallis's aim to reveal the hidden beauty of the female form in her work and Karen often shows women partially covered by layers of transparent drapery.
In Karen Wallis's paintings, beauty can be glimpsed or imagined through the sheer coverings and the hazy mood of the image. The human form seen in part or with some mystery provokes the imagination and captivates the viewer in a way that full revelation does not.
Karen Wallis's figurative work is chiefly influenced by Dante, Gabriel Rossetti and the wonderful contemporary work of Ken Howard. When painting the human form Karen Wallis tries to convey a tenderness and appreciation of innate female beauty.
