Graham McKean...Artist

Graham McKean was born in 1962 in Irvine, Ayrshire. His work has been described by the art critic W. Gordon Smith as a cross between the painters John Byrne and Stanley Spencer, with an interesting 'bite'.

This new series of "money stack" paintings embody the sense of irony and humour that is so characteristic of his work. Graham McKean's first painting of money formed part of his 2002 exhibition Powersuits and Pinstripes inspired by the "The City" and "Business".

Over recent years Graham McKean has painted various paintings of money using numerous banknotes.Graham states humourously that his only criteria is that the buyer of the painting always pays less than the actual amount portrayed.

This new series of Graham's depicts the four main currencies of the world and epitomize his interest in this theme.

McKean's work is included in numerous private and public collections including Standard Life, RICS (Edinburgh) and William Grant and Sons Ltd.

Graham McKean was recently commissioned by the Scottish Opera to produce 5 large oils depicting all aspects of opera and theatre for the Theatre Royal in Glasgow
