Dorothy Stirling's work is firmly rooted in her love of the Scottish landscape which she people's with sheep and birds. She finds the presence of the human figure in her pictures reduces the atmosphere of loneliness and prefers the company of a solitary animal or bird.
The Lamb has become a kind of pilgrim progressing through life: at first meek and helpless as in "To The Rescue" but becoming increasingly more confident as in "Hero's Return" which was inspired by Ellen McArthurs courageous single-handed sail around the world in the Vendee Globe Race.
